Brought to the Peach State in 1973, the rich history of Georgia’s film industry started when Georgia governor and soon-to-be president Jimmy Carter founded the Georgia State Film Commission. As one of the most extensive production facilities in the country, the studio features forty buildings showcasing 12 sound stages, 200 acres of green space and a versatile backlot.
Shadowbox Studios is a leading independent studio platform facility that has been home to multiple blockbusters, including Jumanji: The Next Level and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Strategically placed in the metro Atlanta area, Shadowbox Studios stretches across 100 acres and features nine soundstages, a warehouse, a mill and office space.

The Franklin College of Arts and Sciences offers University of Georgia students a pathway into the world of film through its various programs in the theatre and film studies department. Offering undergraduate and graduate programs under the film studies and theatre department, students have multiple study areas, including design, theatre, media and technology, film studies and performance. The Department of Theatre and Film Studies at the University of Georgia is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre and is a member of the University Resident Theatre Association.

Cinematic Celebrations
The SCAD Savannah Film Festival is an annual event presented by the Savannah College of Art and Design created to celebrate the cinematic developments of both emerging student filmmakers and award-winning professionals. Hosting a wide array of feature-length and short-form film screenings, workshops, competitions, special screenings and panels, the eight-day festival typically hosts more than 63,000 attendees and features honored guests, such as Janelle Monae, Jenna Ortega, Sadie Sink, Miles Teller, Eddie Redmayne and Colson Baker (a.k.a. Machine Gun Kelly) who were honored guests at the 2022 festival.
Presented by the Atlanta Film Society, the annual Atlanta Film Festival (ATLFF) is one of the largest and longest-running festivals in the country and is one of only two dozen Academy Award-qualifying festivals in the United States. Welcoming an audience of over 28,000 people, the much-anticipated event showcases hundreds of new international, independent, documentary, animated and short films. Past festival guests have included Jeff Foxworthy, Gary Anthony Williams, Eddie Vedder, Tichina Arnold and many more!
